JOB SUMMARY/
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administrator reviews research protocol submissions to ensure protocol procedures and consent processes are structured in a manner that meets the requirements of federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies governing human research and privacy, and where appropriate, grant approval for the Institutional Review Board.
ResponsibilitiesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:
- Interprets and applies federal, state, University regulations, and institutional policies relevant to human subjects’ research and privacy.
- Oversees and coordinates the preparation of continuation/renewal applications for review by the fully convened IRB and ensures that all relevant documents are provided to the reviewers IRB members, and ready for review by the Board.
- Communicates concerns to research staff (investigators and/or coordinators) to resolve pertinent issues and approves administrative and procedural modifications.
- Reviews responsive materials from investigators and determines whether stated conditions have been satisfied or whether additional information is required.
- Processes accounts receivable/payable for IRB review fees.
- Provides assistance and instruction to IRB members, faculty, staff, student researchers, and research coordinators in the use of the IRB electronic submissions.
- Identifies regulatory issues as well as institutional policy issues and makes recommendations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in a research environment that demonstrates experience with compliance issues and familiarity with research ethics and methods;
OR a combination of education and relevant experience to equal five (5) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to make effective recommendations and decisions.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and problem-solve with high volumes and rigid deadlines.
- Ability to utilize multiple resources and references to understand complex regulations.
Skilled in the use of the computer to include Microsoft Office.
Strong organizational skills.
