St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has established an expansive and multicomponent new Translational Neuroscience Initiative, directed by Dr. J. Paul Taylor, whose mission is to understand and treat catastrophic childhood neurological disease. This program integrates basic and clinical neuroscience and includes strategic partnerships with industry and foundations to achieve this goal.
A key component is the Center for Experimental Neurotherapeutics (CENT), directed by Dr. Richard Finkel.
We are recruiting two academic clinician scientists. The clinical program is rapidly growing into new areas of translational neuroscience, especially neurometabolic disorders and the ataxias. Candidates with expertise in other high‑needs areas of Neurology will also be considered. Substantial resources are available to build a successful program. These positions will be largely research focused, with some relevant clinic time expected.
Qualifications- MD or equivalent degree, with the ability to practice medicine in Tennessee.
- Current certification in Neurology by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry or equivalent.
- Proven productivity as a principal investigator in early and mid‑phase clinical trials.
- Experience with antisense oligonucleotides and/or AAV‑mediated gene therapy is an advantage.
- Leadership skills and participation in national and international academic activities.
- Build a team and establish a clinical trial program in your area of expertise.
- Establish and direct a regional center of excellence clinic for the longitudinal assessment of patients with your targeted diseases.
- Develop strategic partnerships.
- Participate in general activities of the CENT.
Faculty appointment will be commensurate with demonstrated clinical trial experience, publication productivity, participation in academic activities nationally and internationally, and leadership skills.
