Job Summary
Perform Mechanical and Energy Management Controls (EMS) to support maintenance of District properties, including manual labor, equipment and tool maintenance, timely completion of work orders with minimal disruption, and accurate record keeping under general supervision.
Responsibilities- Provides oral and written reports to the Zone Maintenance Manager.
- Coordinates and recommends overtime work (excluding bona fide emergencies) to the Zone Maintenance Manager.
- Assists in reviewing all outside contract repair requests.
- Evaluates and recommends work to be done in‑house or contracted.
- Responsible for safe and efficient repair/maintenance of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems within Shelby County Schools.
- Keeps records of work requested, completed, hours, materials used, and other management information.
- Uses the work order system to monitor materials and supplies costs to ensure budget compliance.
- Maintains an inventory of tools and equipment to ensure accountability and efficiency.
- Enforces safety regulations and precautions in area of responsibility.
- Communicates daily with the Zone Maintenance Manager regarding work progress and issues.
- Oversees the Energy Management department.
- Coordinates and monitors all requested outside contractor assistance in repair of equipment.
- Works with zone managers to ensure all HVAC systems are inspected and tested before seasonal operation.
- Performs preventive maintenance on air conditioning and heating equipment with zone managers.
- Ensures HVAC personnel comply with EPA CFC requirements.
- Follows up on repairs (in‑house and contract) to verify proper completion.
- Provides hands‑on assistance in training HVAC personnel.
- Applies for necessary permits and communicates with code enforcement officials.
- Attends training and meetings as required to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
- High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience.
- Journeyman license in Mechanical and Gas.
- Proof of education, training and/or experience is required.
- Degree equivalency:
Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years + required experience;
Master’s Degree = 2 years + required experience.
