Carmichael International Service is seeking an experienced and motivated Import Operations Supervisor to lead a team of customs brokerage professionals, including file openers, data entry specialists, classifiers, traffic coordinators, and entry writers. This position is responsible for both operational leadership and customer service excellence, ensuring efficient workflow management, strong team performance, and successful delivery of services to customers.

The ideal candidate is a strong leader with customs brokerage or international logistics experience who can effectively manage people, operational performance, customer relationships, and key performance indicators (KPIs). This individual will also serve as the technical subject matter expert for the import operations team, providing guidance on complex customs entries, HTS classification, trade remedies, and Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements. The successful candidate will support entry writers with technical questions, communicate regulatory updates, and help ensure compliance practices evolve alongside changing U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.

Team

Leadership & Operations
  • Manage the daily workflow and performance of the import operations team.
  • Ensure operational activities are completed accurately and within customer expectations.
  • Monitor team productivity, service levels, and operational KPIs.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet workload demands and deadlines.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for operational issues and complex customer matters.
Customer Service & Relationship Management
  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone and email.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Meet with customers as needed to discuss service requirements, concerns, and performance expectations.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service and timely issue resolution.
Employee Development & Performance Management
  • Hire, onboard, train, and develop team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews and coaching sessions.
  • Develop corrective action plans when necessary.
  • Foster a positive, productive, and accountable work environment.
  • Mentor employees and support career development initiatives.
Operational Support
  • Provide operational backup support when needed.
  • Assist team members with difficult transactions, compliance issues, and problem resolution.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications Education
  • College degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly detail-oriented and focused.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience supervising customs brokerage, import operations, logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain teams.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and import procedures.
  • Experience managing customer relationships and service delivery metrics.
