Multi-Craft Mechanic supports, maintains, and improves equipment within our aluminum extrusion facility. This role requires a skilled technician with strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting abilities. The ideal candidate understands the fast-paced nature of extrusion operations and can ensure maximum uptime, safety, and production efficiency across all equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on all extrusion equipment, including:
  • Extrusion presses
  • Billet heaters
  • Pullers and stretchers
  • Die ovens
  • Aging ovens
  • Cooling systems, handling systems, and saws
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues with minimal downtime.
• Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.

Installation & Upgrades

• Assist with installation, setup, and alignment of new machinery or system modifications.
• Support upgrades to automation, controls, guarding, and mechanical systems.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all plant safety policies, ensuring proper lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and safe work practices.
• Maintain documentation of work performed, including PM logs, parts usage, and repair notes.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

• Collaborate with operators, maintenance leadership, and engineering to enhance equipment reliability.
• Recommend improvements to maintenance procedures, spare parts inventory, and process efficiency.
• Help maintain accurate parts usage and communicate needs for replenishment or upgrades.

Technical Skills

• Troubleshoot and work with:
  • Hydraulics: pumps, valves, cylinders, pressure systems
  • Pneumatics: actuators, solenoids, air systems
  • Electrical systems up to 480V (motors, contractors, sensors)
  • Mechanical components: bearings, gearboxes, chains, conveyors, drive systems
• Able to interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial environment; extrusion experience preferred.
• Multi-craft skills across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and respond quickly to breakdowns.
• Proficiency with basic computer systems for PM tasks and reporting.
• Ability to lift, climb, and work in industrial conditions as required.
