Forklift Operator, General Labor, Material Handler

Ferrous Processing & Trading (FPT) is a division of Cleveland‑Cliffs that processes, buys, sells, and recycles scrap metals. FPT is looking for an Equipment Operator at its Middle Tennessee location to handle the on‑site movement and processing of scrap materials.
Responsibilities- Ensure adherence to safety standards, including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and removal of hazards.
- Load and unload materials from storage, production areas, docks, delivery vehicles, staging areas, or containers using mobile equipment or by hand.
- Sort recycled materials and metals to separate high‑grade metals and remove non‑conforming metals.
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as front‑end loaders, menlifts, yard vehicles, car crushers, shears, and yard switch tractors.
- Operate and maintain baler, remove finished bales, weigh them, and place them in finished goods inventory.
- Operate and maintain mobile equipment including forklifts, skid steers, menlifts, street sweepers, and water trucks.
- Use hand tools, torches, banders, saw zalls, and wire snips for tasks involving physical labor.
- Identify scrap grades and types and recognize undesirable elements.
- Position trailers and containers around the yard, empty gaylord boxes, switch rail cars, and operate locomotives as needed.
- Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles and perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
- Assist mechanics with equipment maintenance and interact with customers or drivers to provide directional aid.
- Perform daily inspections of equipment and other general labor tasks as assigned.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma, GED, or at least 1 year of equipment operator experience.
- Ability to work independently and maintain accurate records.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
- Ability to endure daily physical and outdoor work, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in an environment with dust, dirt, vibration, extreme climate, and weather changes.
- Pre‑employment background screen, physical exam, and drug screen required.
