Steel Plant Production Supervisor

To support and lead with a hands-on approach, the daily activities of all steel plant production direct labor personnel. By communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Coaching and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures; and to ensure scheduled production and all Safety and Quality standards are met.

Provides training and coaching to employees as needed. Regularly updating the training matrix.

To support and take part in the Inventory Control Process

To lead the shift and production line processes for Steel.

Review and approve employee timecards. Along with closely monitoring the attendance policy system.

Embrace the Pandrol core values. Disseminating the culture throughout the team.

Ability to compile, read and interpret production reports.

Reviews production schedules and work orders and assigns duties to workers according to order priorities.

Responsible for shift schedule of temporary and full-time employees, including workstation assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignments, backup for absent employees and shift rotations.

Holds shift start and changeover meetings with employees for improved communication. Along with leading the tier 1 meetings between operations, maintenance, and quality.

Attends meetings as needed. Schedules and conducts shift meetings as needed and communicates regularly with other Shift supervisors, the Plant Manager, Maintenance and Quality Departments.

Attends training for self-development, improvement, and skill strengthening as required or needed.

To conduct employee performance reviews and promote continuous improvement

Initiates and fosters a spirit of cooperating within and between departments. Working very closely with the maintenance and quality departments.

Initiates and verifies that 5S improvements are being implemented and maintained.

Confers with management and other supervisors to resolve production issues.

Ensures safety requirements are met by enforcing the use of personal protective equipment and requiring team members to keep work areas clean and organized according to Lean Manufacturing. Reports near misses, injuries and required first aid to Safety specialist.

Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.

Occasionally work weekends with the team on non-operating tasks.

External:
None

Minimum of five years of experience in manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery.

Well versed with Lean manufacturing knowledge. Including, but not limited to: 5S, Tier meetings, and problem-solving methodologies (4D, 8D, A3).

Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.

High school diploma or GED.

Motivated, detail oriented, and self-directed and must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily without reasonable accommodation/supervision.

Strong leadership, planning and organizational skills essential.

Basic computer skills including familiarity with MS Office and Windows.

Ability to work with employees in a team environment.

Ability to communicate and comprehend the English language, both verbally and written.

Ability to lift, up to 50 pounds and stand for prolonged periods of time.

Ability to train all levels of the organization, across all shifts of operation.

Keep abreast of the latest trends/developments in Quality, Safety, and Environmental practices through regular formal training provided by Pandrol.

Primary measures of successful performance will be:

Achieve production goals of shift in a timely and accurate manner.

Regularly pass 5S assessments by site leaders.

Pass LEAN manufacturing assessments by Global OPEX team.

Quality goals, on time delivery, and safety goals as set by company policies and management team.

Receive zero notices of violation or administrative consent orders regarding environmental, legal, and regulatory requirements.
