Test Operator

The Test Operator supports in-process and final testing of control panels and heat exchange units in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role focuses on testing electrical components, assisting with training and documentation, and ensuring products meet established quality and compliance standards. The Test Operator works closely with electrical assembly technicians to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues while accurately documenting test results and compliance data.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final testing on the electrical components of control panels to ensure they meet quality and performance specifications.
  • Use voltmeters, ohmmeters, and other test equipment to verify electrical continuity, current flow, and proper operation of components and systems.
  • Test automated In Row Heat Exchange units following established procedures and processes after receiving appropriate training.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and diagnose electrical faults based on defined metrics, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with electrical assembly technicians to resolve issues, suggest possible repairs, and support continuous improvement of products and processes.
  • Assist in the build and manufacture of fixtures and tooling as needed to support testing activities and meet customer expectations.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, prints, and documentation to perform accurate testing and problem solving.
  • Complete compliance reporting using Excel and other software tools, accurately recording test data and results.
  • Operate a personal computer using a Windows-based operating system and related software to run tests, document findings, and support reporting.
  • Inspect parts and assemblies as part of the testing process to verify workmanship and adherence to standards.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and operational procedures while working with electrical wiring, hand tools, and test equipment.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented production environment by communicating clearly, supporting coworkers, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in electronics, electromechanical, or electrical testing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical schematics and the ability to read and interpret schematics or prints.
  • Understanding of current flow and basic electrical theory.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC systems and switch gear.
  • Ability to use voltmeters, ohmmeters, and other electrical test equipment safely and effectively.
  • Experience working in a production or manufacturing environment with test equipment and inspection processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, debug, and diagnose electrical faults based on defined metrics and test results.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based operating systems and related software, including the ability to use Excel for compliance reporting.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in a team setting.
  • Strong basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Capability to work effectively with hand tools and around electrical wiring and HMI (human-machine interface) systems.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical, vocational, or associate degree in electronics, electromechanical, electrical technology, or a related field may be considered in lieu of hands-on experience, provided there is a solid understanding of the tools and testing processes.
  • Experience as a test operator, inspector, or in general production within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with working under defined metrics and compliance requirements.
  • Comfort using microscopes, hand tools, and other inspection equipment as needed.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills in a production setting.
  • Ability to adapt to automated testing processes and learn new testing procedures.
