Morgan Steel, LLC is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Material Handler / Forklift Operator to support our Packaging Department. This position is responsible for safely transporting finished steel products, supplying packaging materials to production, packaging customer orders, and loading outbound shipments. The ideal candidate has forklift experience, can accurately read a tape measure, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This description is adapted from the existing Processor / Material Handler role while focusing specifically on packaging operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Operate forklifts to transport finished steel products throughout the facility.
- Stage material for packaging according to customer orders and production schedules.
- Package steel products using proper dunnage, banding, stretch wrap, edge protectors, and other packaging materials.
- Verify material quantities, dimensions, and part numbers prior to shipment.
- Read work orders, packing lists, shipping documents, and tape measures to ensure order accuracy.
- Load and unload company and common carrier trucks safely and efficiently.
- Perform quality inspections to ensure products are packaged securely and free from damage.
- Maintain accurate inventory of packaging supplies and notify supervision when replenishment is needed.
- Complete daily forklift inspections and report equipment issues promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all OSHA regulations, Morgan Steel safety policies, and PPE requirements.
- Assist with inventory movement, cycle counts, and other warehouse duties as assigned.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum one year of forklift experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
- Experience handling steel products or other heavy materials preferred.
- Basic computer and inventory documentation skills are a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Dependable attendance and positive work ethic.
