Position SummaryThe Voortman Saw Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring automated Voortman CNC sawing and processing equipment used in structural steel fabrication. The operator ensures machines are properly set up and running, verifies material and production specifications, performs quality checks, and maintains a safe and efficient work environment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Operate Voortman CNC saw equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load, position, and secure structural steel beams and other material for processing.
- Review CNC programs, shop drawings, and production specifications.
- Set up the saw and verify blade selection, machine settings, material dimensions, and program requirements.
- Monitor machine operation and make adjustments as necessary to maintain production and quality requirements.
- Inspect finished material for correct length, cuts, dimensions, and overall quality.
- Identify machine problems, blade wear, and production issues and notify supervision when necessary.
- Replace saw blades as required.
- Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance.
- Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment as authorized.
- Maintain accurate production records.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and PPE requirements.
- Communicate production status, equipment issues, and material concerns to the supervisor.
- Meet established production schedules, quality standards, and efficiency goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Previous experience operating CNC saws, automated saw lines.
- Experience with Voortman equipment is a strong plus.
- Ability to read shop drawings.
- Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and other inspection equipment.
- Ability to work independently while also communicating effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Machine-operation experience preferred.
- Ability to work second shift and overtime when required.
