Libertas is a public charter school serving the Frayser neighborhood. Our mission is to be a school for human flourishing: cultivating minds, hands, and hearts for lives of wonder, work, and love. We offer a rich, rigorous, personalized education through the method of Dr. Maria Montessori and the classical liberal arts. We are an attachment village of family supports. Tennessee has twice named Libertas a Reward School. We serve 700+ children from infant through middle school on two campuses and are launching a small new high school. We also operate a nationally- accredited, state-licensed teacher training program. Learn more

Role summary: an organized professional who advances our mission through compelling communications, well-managed external relationships, and engagement of supporters.

Role information

  • Full-time, year-round. Regular schedule 7:30-4:00 (PD once per week until 4:30). Periodic events outside normal day. Potential adjusted hours during school breaks.
  • Reports to Director of Communications & Development
  • Key relationships:
    Family Engagement manager, Events Coordinator, Finance team

Key responsibilities

  • External relations: Monitor communications from public agencies (especially TN Charter Commission, First 8 Memphis, State of TN) and other stakeholders to gather information about opportunities and requirements. Work with internal staff to ensure compliance, complete and submit reports. Handle routine items independently while escalating to the director when guidance is needed.
  • Development: Support the director in creating grant applications and appeal / outreach materials. Ensure grant cycles and donor cultivation activities are tracked in project management system. Prepare donor appreciations. Support completion of reports on time and effectively. Support logistics for donor/prospect visits. Help plan and implement fundraising events. Maintain donor database.
  • Communications : Create communications and visual content such as newsletter, website updates, social media posts, fliers. Conduct schedule of regular social media posts aligned to objectives. Operationally support special marketing and promotional projects such as videos.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Communications are compelling, clear, thorough, timely, brand-aligned
  • External stakeholders report satisfaction with our communications
  • Meet expectations on performance evaluations, and other indicators.

Qualifications, competencies, and traits

  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to details and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable reviewing complex documents, synthesizing information, and preparing concise reports.
  • Experience in development, communications, or nonprofit operations preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Canva preferred but not required
  • Strong initiative, follow-through, and flexibility to manage simultaneous projects.
  • Collaborative mindset. Professional discretion.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission.

Compensation :
Salary $45,000 to $60,000 based on qualifications and experience. Investment in professional development. Paid sick leave and vacation time. Health insurance including family plans; retirement benefits (TCRS or 5% 401k match)
