Job Description

Organize Tennessee is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization driven to uphold safe, secure, and accessible elections for every eligible voter. We advocate for voting rights protections, build coalitions, provide legal support and prioritize grassroots organizing to eliminate barriers and empower disenfranchised Tennesseans.

Organize Tennessee is seeking a dynamic and community-centered full-time Organizer to lead election protection programming, voter turnout initiatives, and redistricting advocacy efforts in Shelby County. The Organizer will recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to serve as poll observers during election cycles while also building volunteer-led teams focused on increasing voter turnout and civic participation. This role will support local advocacy efforts related to election administration and redistricting through coalition-building, public engagement, and legislative outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train and manage volunteer poll observers during election season
  • Recruit, train and manage voter turnout volunteers
  • Organize regular public education events focused on election law, redistricting and public interest issues
  • Attend partner and coalition meetings on behalf of Organize TN
  • Monitor and organize volunteers to attend county election commissions meetings
  • Serve as Organize TN lead in Shelby County on state legislative advocacy by building relationships with key policy makers

Desired Qualifications

  • Resident of Shelby County
  • Strong interest in election protection, voter turnout, redistricting, voting rights reform and rights restoration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity and record of success working with communities of color, women, low-income people, LGBTQIA individuals, and/or other historically underrepresented communities.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated ability to negotiate, build consensus, and strategically disagree. Must be respected by stakeholders and be trusted to lead.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently. Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills.

Salary Range and Benefits

  • $60,000 per year, full-time
