WYXR 91.7 FM is Memphis’s nonprofit freeform community radio station, broadcasting from Crosstown Concourse. We’re a small, hands‑on team that puts the city’s music and voices on the air every day — bold, community‑rooted, and independent.

The Development Manager leads WYXR’s fundraising in partnership with the Executive Director, centered on three pillars — grants, sponsor ships, and station underwriting — plus support for our capital campaign and individual giving. Success means meeting the station’s annual fundraising goals while building and stewarding lasting relationships with funders, sponsors, donors, and community partners.

A self‑starter who stays proactive from first outreach through final fulfillment. You’re the face of WYXR to funders, sponsors, and donors — the relationships you build directly shape the station’s financial health and its voice in Memphis. You collaborate daily with a small staff — Program Manager, Community Engagement & Events Lead, and Operations Manager — while independently owning the work that lands solely with Development, and you’re flexible enough to pick up tasks beyond fundraising when the team needs it.

You’re comfortable with urgency as a constant: there’s always a next prospect and a fundraising need. You don’t need someone over your shoulder — just clarity on what success looks like, the autonomy to pursue it, and regular connection with leadership.

• Fundraising strategy
  :
  Work with the Executive Director to build and execute WYXR’s annual development plan and meet goals across all revenue streams.
• Grants
  :
  Research, write, and submit applications; manage reporting and renewals; maintain relationships with local, regional, and national funders.
• Sponsor ships
  :
  Prospect and secure network and event sponsors, retain existing partners, and manage fulfillment, follow‑ups, and thank‑yous.
• Underwriting
  :
  Build the underwriter prospect list and own the full process — outreach, script drafting, recording, traffic/log management, and refreshes.
• Capital campaign
  :
  Support the ED and Capital Campaign Committee with prospecting, progress tracking, milestone management, and committee communication.
• Donor stewardship
  :
  Cultivate and steward individual donor relationships, coordinating with the Community Engagement & Events Lead, who leads the membership drive.
• Invoicing & tracking
  :
  Create and track fundraising invoices and reconcile them in Quick Books Online.
• Market sense
  :
  Keep a pulse on local businesses and organizations that align with WYXR, and reach out accordingly.

• 3–5 years in fundraising, communications, marketing, project management, or a related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.

• Familiarity with grant writing and grant funding portals.
• Experience with a donor database / CRM.
• Roots in—or genuine excitement to dig into—the Memphis community.

Base salary of $52,000–$60,000, commensurate with experience, plus an annual performance bonus of up to 15% tied to agreed-upon performance goals. Total compensation range: approximately $60,000–$69,000.
