Position SummaryThe Canvass Supervisor provides strategic leadership for Memphis Artists for Change's field canvassing program. This position oversees multiple canvassing teams, ensuring high-quality voter and community engagement while meeting organizational goals for conversations, surveys, volunteer recruitment, leadership identification, and campaign actions.
The Canvass Supervisor is responsible for hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, quality assurance, data management, and performance accountability. This role spends time both in the office planning operations and in the field supporting teams.
- Oversee daily operations of all canvassing activities.
- Develop weekly and monthly field plans that align with campaign goals.
- Establish daily goals for conversations, surveys, volunteer recruitment, and leadership identification.
- Ensure canvassing operations reflect MAC's organizing values and community-centered approach.
- Directly supervise Canvassers
- Interview, hire, and onboard canvassing staff.
- Conduct regular coaching sessions and performance evaluations.
- Develop improvement plans when necessary.
- Foster a positive, accountable team culture.
- Co-Design and Co-facilitate canvasser training.
- Train staff in:
- Community organizing
- De-escalation
- Survey administration
- Storytelling
- Safety protocols
- Approve turf assignments and daily routes.
- Conduct field visits to observe and coach teams.
- Ensure proper materials, technology, and logistics are available.
- Monitor quality of conversations and adherence to scripts.
- Monitor daily field metrics.
- Review canvassing data for quality and completeness.
- Prepare weekly reports for campaign leadership.
- Analyze trends and recommend strategy improvements.
- Represent MAC professionally within neighborhoods.
- Build relationships with community leaders and partners.
- Address concerns raised by residents.
- Ensure canvassing reflects respect, dignity, and cultural competence.
- Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
- 35 years of canvassing, organizing, outreach, or campaign experience
- Minimum 2 years supervising staff
- Experience using voter files or CRM systems preferred
- Strong leadership and coaching ability
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Commitment to racial justice and community organizing
