Overview

Rhodes College invites applications for a part-time PRN/Nurse Practitioner. The Nurse Practitioner reports directly to the Director of Student Health Center and provides clinical care and health services, including nursing assessments, examinations, and treatment.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Assessment and management of students’ acute, chronic, and preventive health issues, consistent with defined practice guidelines and American College Health Association (ACHA) and CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education – Clinical Health Services.
  • Provide appropriate medical treatment to students within the accepted professional standards and scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with the registered nurse to formulate an individualized plan(s) of care for student patients.
  • Perform laboratory duties according to protocol and comply with OSHA, TOSHA, CLIA, and other regulatory requirements as needed.
  • Refer patients for specialized medical care beyond the Student Health Center’s scope and coordinate medical transport as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents, students, physicians, and off-campus medical personnel to provide follow-up care and support.
Qualifications
  • A master’s degree or doctorate in nursing with a current Tennessee license and certification.
  • Nurse Practitioner certification with a current Tennessee license
  • Current DEA certification, NPI number, and CPR/First Aid certification
  • Licenses and certifications in good standing
  • Current immunizations (Tdap, MMR, Meningococcal, Varicella, TB Skin Test, and Flu)
  • Proof of professional liability insurance before start date
  • Five years of administrative and clinical experience in college health, primary care, urgent care, or related field, with preference for health education and supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, insurance, computer systems, health assessment, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with the American Association of College Health
  • Demonstrated use of diversity, equity, and inclusion approaches to clinical care
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies; leadership in risk management
  • Knowledge of College policies and legal issues in higher education
  • Ability to investigate and respond to risk management and wellness concerns
  • Proactive leadership style that encourages teamwork
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; computer proficiency
  • Understanding of student affairs/health services management and partnership building
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and promote inclusion
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to the College’s vision and values
  • Ability to develop and maintain partnerships across campus and with students, faculty, staff, and families
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required periodically
Physical Demands

Light work in a general office environment requiring sitting, computer use, and occasional movement. Visual acuity and manual dexterity are needed with occasional lifting up to 10 lbs. Mobility to move about the office and between buildings is required.
