Kay 5 supports patients who are diagnosed with solid tumors or neuro‑oncology disorders. Be a part of groundbreaking cell therapies or antibody infusions that work to improve outcomes in this patient population. Kay 5 is a 17‑bed unit that offers a small nurse‑to‑patient ratio. This is a night shift position seeking nurses with at least one year of experience. 7 pm — 7 am

Minimum Education and/or Training
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), preferred as applicable.
Minimum Experience
  • BSN required with completion of 18 months of clinical nursing experience.
  • St. Jude or other RN experience required.
  • Intermediate pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment skills.
  • Some experience in pediatric or oncology nursing.
  • Working knowledge of research protocols.
  • Strong knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age‑related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served.
  • Strong ability to assess and interpret age‑specific data about the patient’s status.
  • Strong clinical nursing, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
  • Proven performance in earlier role.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law
  • Must possess a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non‑Compact state.
  • Must possess a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only
  • Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) preferred.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.
Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Proactively engages with patients to seek feedback and suggestions to deliver high quality service within own area.
  • Executes new approaches to improve patient systems, processes, and communication across patient care teams.
  • Independently seeks out and addresses complex patient needs and priorities to ensure an integrated patient care experience.
  • Independently addresses healthcare needs within own area, through strong medical/clinical knowledge and skills; demonstrates strong understanding of research and clinical trials to support implementation.
  • Is able to comprehend, translate, and interpret medical/clinical information for delivery of high quality patient care.
  • Leverages strong knowledge of clinical nursing and primary care coordination to function independently/proficiently in managing clinical practices.
  • Prioritizes and ensures patient safety while complying with ethical principles, legal regulations and standards of care.
  • Identifies potential areas for improvement in patient care quality and suggests solutions.
