The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) e Children’s Research Hospital supports patients who need critical care. It is an 8‑bed unit that delivers 1:1 nursing care and is supported by a dedicated team of Intensivists and Advanced Practice Providers 24/7. Nursing duties include caring for patients who require ventilation, renal replacement therapy, and hemodynamic support while blending critical thinking with a research approach to pediatric hematology/oncology illnesses.
Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 nursing care in a critical care setting.
- Support patients requiring ventilation, renal replacement therapy, and hemodynamic support.
- Employ intermediate pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment skills.
- Utilize working knowledge of research protocols and age‑specific clinical nursing standards.
- Deliver patient education, documentation, and teamwork with the ICU multidisciplinary team.
- Education and Training
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. - Experience
Minimum of 18 months of clinical nursing experience, including St. Jude or other RN experience. Proven performance in earlier nursing roles. - Licensure and Certification
Registered Nurse (RN) license with current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license (or a Nurse Licensure Compact state license). Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) preferred;
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred. - Strong knowledge of growth and development across all ages and the ability to assess and interpret age‑specific data about patient status.
- Excellent interpersonal, patient education, and clinical nursing skills.
Compensation: A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $31.50 - $55.00 per hour for the role of Pediatric Oncology Nurse II: ICU.
