What You Will Do
  • Provides nursing care according to the medical regime and nursing interventions appropriate for patients’ conditions, following established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Initiates assessment based on the patient’s presenting problems or needs, physician’s diagnosis, and functional health framework upon admission and assignment.
  • Collects key information from patient, family, laboratory, and other medical reports.
  • Determines nursing diagnoses and priorities for care, considering patient teaching, discharge planning, and developmental needs.
  • Chooses appropriate standards of care applicable to the patient.
  • Documents assessments, including nursing diagnoses or other clinical judgments.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and technical, interpersonal, and critical‑thinking skills to provide care, maintain competency, and meet age‑specific needs within the unit.
  • Manages care of patients with conditions common to the unit.
  • Performs clinical rounds and ongoing assessments, re‑prioritizes care based on new information, updates nursing diagnoses, and involves family or significant others in assessment activities.
  • Assesses, plans, and implements care for assigned patients, performing therapeutic interventions as ordered by the physician and consistent with nursing division policies.
  • Ensures compliance with risk management, infection‑control practices, and patient safety procedures.
  • Administers medication (IM, IV, SQ, PO) and manages pain control measures appropriate to the unit.
  • Prepares and maintains required records, reports, and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.
  • Recognizes the impact of nursing interventions and the patient’s progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Documents care based on standards and clinical priorities, noting assessment findings and patient responses.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies, assists physician during treatments, procedures, and examinations, and performs specialized duties applicable to the unit.
  • Responds to medical emergencies, initiates or assists with CPR, BLS, or ACLS as required.
  • Provides teaching to patients and families about disease/condition, developing and implementing teaching outlines, objectives, content, strategies, and evaluations.
  • Maintains patient medical records, charting duties, and records activities and observations.
  • Collaborates with patient/family/hospital staff regarding patient needs, admissions, discharges, transfers, referrals, and supplies in a customer‑responsive manner.
  • Instructs, assigns, and supervises LPNs or other support personnel, and assists in orientation and supervision of new staff or students performing patient care.
  • Transports monitored patients, specimens, equipment, and supplies to and from various areas.
  • Collaborates with forensic team and security to provide a safe environment for patients in custody.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, maintaining licensure and certifications required in the unit.
  • Works a flexible schedule within the service line according to float pool staffing guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved nursing school/program.
  • Qualified by education, training, or experience to work with patient populations spanning neonate to geriatric, as per specialty assignment.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with state licensure (or Compact State Licensure) for Tennessee.
  • CPR certification upon hire.
  • BLS certification upon hire.
  • Additional license/certification may be required based on assignment upon hire.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience.
