Under the direction of a Registered Nurse or physician, the Emergency Department Tech III performs a variety of duties to assist the nursing staff and physicians in rendering patient care in the Emergency Department. Provides patient care within a defined scope of practice that includes observation, assessment, and specified treatments and procedures. Whatyou will do
- Under direction of a Registered Nurse or physician, performs specified patient care within the defined scope of practice in the assigned unit of operation in Emergency Department.
- Performs and documents reassessments (excluding initial triage and discharge assessment), including a full set of vital signs.
- Correctly positions the patient for examinations and procedures; holds efficiently for procedures. Assists with transportation of patients.
- Responsible for the safe administration of medications using barcode scanning approved by department policy providing necessary observation and documentation of the effects of the drug administered. Administers select medications approved by department policy as indicated and ordered.
- Under general supervision, performs a variety of patient procedures in accordance with policy and procedure and as ordered by the RN or physician such as performing EKGs, oro-nasal or pharyngeal suctioning, and initiating intravenous fluid therapy (isotonic fluids). May perform radiological procedures according to established guidelines in the use of mini c-arm (facility specific) and point of care testing including bedside glucose and urine pregnancy testing if needed.
- Documents care delivered in the patient’s medical record in accordance with Emergency Department policy and procedure.
- Demonstrates and promotes professional practice on the care team.
- Completes mandatory and unit specific competency requirements.
