Parasitology Lab Aide; Overnight Shift

Job Purpose / Overview

The Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, processing and preparation of fecal samples.

• Collect fecal specimens, scan into loads, and prepare for set up.
• Meet all minimum department requirements for parap loads and Fcombo set‑up rates.
• Accurately build loads and label processing tubes.
• Split specimens for Giardia ELISA when required.
• Find missing specimens.
• Print and reconcile queue list.
• Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
• Maintain all equipment, including hoods, centrifuges, etc.
• Maintain quality control and calibration awareness.
• Cross‑train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within the department/lab.
• Follow applicable SOPs, including safety and quality procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Restock supplies as needed.
• Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
• Consult with senior peers on non‑complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Attention to detail and organized with the ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficiency in English; participation in team meetings, accurate data entry, and understanding written directions.
• Positive, can‑do attitude.

• Stationary position for up to 2 hours; occasional bending, kneeling, stooping, or crouching.
• Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
• Observe details at close range.
• Laboratory environment with potential biohazards mitigated by mandatory PPE.
• General instructions; detailed instructions for new assignments.
• Work under close to moderate supervision.
• Potential exposure to zoonotic disease agents and hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
