Position Summary

A Metrology Technician is a precision professional responsible for ensuring that measuring instruments and test equipment are accurate and reliable. They conduct calibrations and analyze performance, comparing results to established standards to guarantee compliance with precision and accuracy requirements. With a deep understanding of metrology, these technicians report on their findings, offering technical guidance and insights to maintain optimal measurement precision.

Functions
  • Calibrating and maintaining various measurement equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintaining records of measurements and making necessary adjustments or repairs.
  • Providing technical advice for the repair and calibration of precision measuring equipment.
  • Managing and communicating team metrics to peers and management.
  • Initiating Out-Of-Tolerance (OOT) reports as needed.
  • Providing certificates of calibration based on an acceptable quality level of pre-inspected gauges to approve their use in-house or for suppliers.
  • Performing basic maintenance and repair of metrology equipment.
  • Conducting and documenting quality assurance tests.
  • Adhering to the letter and spirit of company policies and compliance regulations.
  • Representing the company in a professional manner and upholding ethical business practices.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in metrology, mechanical engineering, or a related field, or 3 years of experience in this field.
  • Strong academic background in GD&T, mathematics, physics, and computer science.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) or Certified Quality Technician (CQT) from the American Society for Quality preferred.
  • Experience handling and maintaining metrology equipment, understanding measurement uncertainty, calibration procedures, and quality management systems.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD files, technical manuals, and diagrams.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to multitask under pressure.
  • Computer skills for using specialized software to control measurement systems and to document results.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate with engineers and other professionals and to communicate measurement results effectively.
  • Mathematical skills for complex calculations required in measurements and analysis.
  • Time‑management skills to complete tasks within deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Ability to establish relationships across the organization at various hierarchical levels.
  • Continuous learning and staying updated with the latest measurement techniques and tools.
Physical Demands
  • Stand or sit for long periods while operating sensitive measurement equipment.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Possess specific visual abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the capacity to adjust focus.
  • Work in a fast‑paced, action‑oriented environment.
  • Travel up to 5% of the time.
