Job Description
This Laboratory Technician role supports a food manufacturing laboratory by performing routine and specialized testing to ensure product quality, safety, and compliance. You will conduct analytical and microbiological evaluations, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, and accurately document results in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and laboratory safety standards. The position offers cross-training across multiple lab functions and the opportunity to contribute directly to quality control and quality assurance.
Responsibilities
* Perform laboratory testing to evaluate product characteristics such as structure, composition, and pH.
* Conduct microbiological testing, including screening for pathogens such as Salmonella.
* Operate, clean, and maintain standard laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
* Apply wet chemistry techniques, including titration and plating, to support analytical testing needs.
* Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and all laboratory safety procedures.
* Support quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities by performing tests in accordance with established protocols and quality systems.
* Accurately document test results, observations, and any deviations in appropriate records and systems.
* Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory workspace that meets internal and regulatory standards.
* Collaborate with other laboratory technicians and production staff to resolve testing issues and support manufacturing operations.
* Work independently when required, managing assigned tasks and priorities to meet testing timelines.
* Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of chemicals and samples.
Essential Skills
* Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
* Previous experience with laboratory testing and laboratory equipment.
* Knowledge of microbiology and general laboratory practices.
* Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
* Familiarity with quality systems and quality assurance principles.
* Experience or coursework in wet chemistry, including titration and plating.
* Understanding of analytical chemistry concepts as applied in a laboratory setting.
* Ability to follow laboratory safety procedures and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
* Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
* Ability to perform work individually as needed and manage tasks in a manufacturing environment.

Skills & Qualifications
* Experience in a food or manufacturing laboratory environment is a plus.
* Exposure to analytical chemistry and quality assurance processes.
* Experience working in a food manufacturing environment.
* Strong in quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA).
* Comfort working in a 24/7 manufacturing plant environment.
* Attention to detail and strong documentation skills for recording test results and observations.
Work Environment
This is an on-site role in a food laboratory within a manufacturing plant. Laboratory Technicians typically work a schedule of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a minimum of 27 hours per week and the possibility of additional overtime. Training takes place on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to ensure thorough onboarding and cross-training across lab functions.
The environment is fast-paced and production-oriented, with close collaboration between laboratory and manufacturing teams. You will work with standard laboratory equipment, wet chemistry setups, microbiological testing tools, and analytical instruments while following strict GMP, GLP, and lab safety standards. Adherence to safety protocols, use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with all lab and facility procedures are required at all times

This is a Contract position based out of Memphis, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
