Researcher Or Senior Researcher Position

The Cancer Stem Cell Dynamics laboratory of Dirk Loeffler is seeking exceptionally motivated and ambitious candidates for a Researcher or Senior Researcher Position, starting in April 2023 or the earliest date thereafter. If you are curious, creative, and goal-oriented with a keen interest in science, technology, and data this is the right position for you.

We study the genetic and epigenetic changes in blood stem and progenitor cells during hematopoietic diseases and aging. The ideal candidate is curious, self-motivated, and has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experiences in cell and molecular biology or related fields and a strong desire to learn new techniques are a prerequisite. A background in hematology is preferred but not required and candidates from a wide variety of fields with a genuine interest in stem cells and the origins of cancer are encouraged to apply.

You will have the opportunity to work with a young and talented interdisciplinary team to decipher the molecular mechanisms regulating normal and mutant blood stem cell behaviors and decisions. Our laboratory uses molecular and cell biological tools, mouse models, next-generation sequencing, high-resolution 3D microscopy, gene-editing, bioinformatics, and novel long-term continuous quantitative live-cell imaging to understand the molecular mechanisms of hematological diseases at the single-cell level to develop novel therapies.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct laboratory research experiments.
• Document, interpret, and present the results of experiments.
• Learn, implement, and troubleshoot new laboratory techniques & technologies.
• Collect, compile and analyze data; maintain detailed records.
• Training of less experienced research staff
• Reading literature, contributing your own idea and showing initiative
• Preparation of data and texts for publication
• Organization of lab operations.

In this position, you will gain extensive experience and training in various cell and molecular biology techniques, mouse models, flow cytometry, genome editing, confocal microscopy, time-lapse imaging, single-cell analysis, bioinformatics, data presentation, and interpretation. We strongly support the career development of all lab members through opportunities to publish in high-impact journals, obtain grants, and present work at academic conferences.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific area is required.

Minimum Experience

• Researcher: A Bachelor's in a relevant scientific field, such as molecular and cell biology, genetics, or genomics. One year or more of hands-on, research laboratory experience is preferred. Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
• Senior Researcher: A Bachelor's in a relevant scientific field, such as molecular and cell biology, genetics, or genomics. Two years or more of post-degree work experience is required. No experience is required with a Master's degree. Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills
