Position: Scientist - Yen Lab/TGEn Group (Hematopoietic Stem Cell, Genome Editing)

The Scientist performs and coordinates a wide range of laboratory research procedures and conducts a spectrum of complex support tasks and projects determined by the field and scope of the particular research study. The role requires independent performance of laboratory techniques and presentation of results. The position is within Dr. Jonathan Yen’s lab in the Therapeutic Genome Engineering (TGEn) group e Children’s Research Hospital.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform studies to develop genome editing strategies for human hematopoietic stem cells (HSC).
  • Design and execute IND‑enabling experiments to characterize the pharmacology of a genome‑edited HSC product for sickle cell disease.
  • Characterize the efficacy, safety, and potency of the HSC cellular drug product in in‑vitro and xenotransplantation assays.
  • Use multicolor flow cytometry and FACS to sort relevant hematopoietic populations.
  • Develop experimental methods including RT‑PCR, ddPCR, next‑generation sequencing, and single‑cell sequencing.
  • Perform NGS library preparation and analyze editing outcomes, on‑target and off‑target.
  • Evaluate scale‑up and close‑system processes to ensure reproducibility of the drug product.
  • Conduct exploratory research on novel in‑vitro and in‑vivo delivery strategies.
  • Interact and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance the program.
  • Establish tracking and trending analyses of process development and pilot runs.
  • Draft protocols, batch records, and reports for standardization and transfer to GMP facilities.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and institutional goals.
Minimum Education and/or Training

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field is required. Master’s or PhD in a relevant field is highly preferred.

Experience Requirements
  • Eight (8) years of post‑degree experience for a Bachelor’s holder.
  • Six (6) years of post‑degree experience for a Master’s holder.
  • Three (3) years of post‑degree experience for a PhD holder.
  • Preferred experience leading and supporting research experiments.
  • Preferred experience in laboratory and project coordination, maintenance, and support activities.
  • Preferred experience guiding and training laboratory personnel.
  • Proven performance in an earlier or comparable role.

Based in Memphis, TN; relocation assistance is available.

Compensation

Estimated salary range: $86,320 – $154,960 per year for the role of Scientist – Yen Lab/TGEn Group (Hematopoietic Stem Cell, Genome Editing).
