Research Analyst [must have landscape analysis]
Nashville, TN/Hybrid.
In-person attendance is required on the first day for laptop deployment and orientation at the TDH central office in Nashville, TN. 4-12+ months.
The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), Division of Family Health and Wellness (FHW), is seeking a Research Analyst to work within the Cancer Prevention and Control section.
This temporary, full-time hybrid position will conduct a comprehensive landscape analysis of lung and colorectal cancer across the state of Tennessee. The analysis will serve as a baseline needs assessment and inform directed efforts meeting community needs. Travel to the central office is non-reimbursable. The position is funded through Cancer Screening – Lung and Colorectal Cancer state grant funding and is renewable pending funding availability through 6/30/2026.
Responsibilities- Conduct a comprehensive landscape analysis summarizing findings, gaps, and recommendations.
- Develop a qualitative study plan and obtain approval through the Tennessee Department of Health Institutional Review Board (IRB).
- Identify and engage providers and partners.
- Conduct interviews, focus groups, and/or surveys to gather qualitative data on barriers, successes, and opportunities in cancer control, specifically related to lung and colorectal. Occasional travel may be required to conduct in-person assessments, for which travel may be reimbursed.
- Maintain strict research integrity by following all applicable state, federal, and institutional guidelines for conducting this study.
- Produce and provide presentations to audiences of varying backgrounds on study findings and recommendations.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Education and Experience
:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree and experience equivalent to conducting community-based research.
- Strong written and oral communication skills (grant/report writing, presentations)
- Experience with partners in cancer control across the state, especially relating to lung and colorectal
- Experience with evaluation and continuous quality improvement
- Experience in community-based research
- Experience in health data analysis, qualitative research, or landscape assessments.
- Experience in needs assessments or similar strategic documents
- Experience in data visualization and public health software/tools (e.g., Tableau, GIS)
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
