Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Researcher - Developmental Neurobiology (Han Lab)

Overview

The Han laboratory e Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a highly motivated Research Technologist with a strong interest in the mechanisms of brain development, brain tumors, or neurodevelopmental disorders. Humans have the largest neocortex relative to their brain size, and its folded surface is thought to be the root of our unique mental abilities. What cellular and molecular mechanisms drive the development and evolution of this remarkable structure?

How do disruptions in these mechanisms lead to neurodevelopmental disorders and brain tumors? We aim to answer these fundamental questions by investigating the neural progenitor cells that construct the brain during development.

To uncover the mechanisms regulating human neural progenitor cells, we developed the first stable and robust genetic mouse model, in which neural progenitors acquire the key features of human neural progenitors, driving the transformation of the small, smooth mouse cortex into an expanded, folded cortex. In addition to this unique and powerful animal model, we employ a broad range of approaches, including human pluripotent stem cells, brain organoids, genome editing, high-resolution imaging, single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and proteomics.

The immediate research project will focus on characterizing novel cellular models of a pediatric brain tumor, which have been derived from patient samples and human pluripotent stem cells. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment to investigate the mechanisms that drive tumorigenesis and to develop therapeutic approaches that target those mechanisms.
