Laboratory Technician
Assists researchers in performing a variety of routine or repetitive technical duties in a laboratory and/or on a research project. Incumbents draw largely upon their practical knowledge and experience derived from trial and error work.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains and trains students, faculty, and other staff on instruments and biomedical research equipment (e.g. balances, HPLC, centrifuges, incubators, materials testers, microscopes/imaging systems, data acquisition systems and associated software) as well as on standard operating procedures. Ensures procedures for safe use of labs, instruments and equipment according to established procedures and specifications are followed.
Assists with developing, purchasing materials and equipment, setting up, implementing laboratory and hands-on activities for classes/projects.
Aids student teams to realize prototypes of senior projects, including purchasing tasks. Provide support on college initiatives, such as E-day and Career Fairs.
Stocks chemical, biological, and instrumentation labs, including use of appropriate purchasing systems. Maintains chemical inventory and hazardous waste programs in compliance with institutional Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Coordinates lab safety and disposal of hazardous materials for chemical and biological labs in the College of Engineering.
Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsAssociate's degree and one year of appropriate experience. Must possess a valid driver's license. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
