Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Know and actively demonstrate, daily, our Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Maintain uniform standards, as detailed in the Employee Manual, for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, use our Guest Services script. For Specs locations: offer 5% discount, ask for Specs Key, call guest by name if possible, offer additional items, offer charity option, thank guest.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add‑on items, including charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so accurate amounts are charged.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction. Never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
  • Check acceptable identification when necessary to ensure legal sale; use best practices and remain professional.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise. Use business‑mindset with bags; double bag only when asked by the guest for multiple bottle orders, use boxes, bottle protectors when needed.
  • Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat; do not overstock counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, ensuring all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time management skills; prioritize tasks.
  • Manage stress in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Stand most of shift, bend and walk occasionally; lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 or more occasionally using proper techniques; push or pull 50–100 pounds occasionally.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Other projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • May need to clean the restroom.
  • Attendance and timeliness are required.
Qualifications
  • Education or

    Experience:

    Preferably cashiering experience; high school diploma or GED desired.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Read, comprehend and write simple instructions or memos; bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Add, subtract, multiply, divide; calculate discounts and percentages.
  • Demeanor and Personal

    Skills:

    Friendly, helpful, responsible, reliable, self‑starter with strong work ethic; patience, friendliness, outgoing personality.
  • Hours:

    Full‑time typically 35 hours per week; must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday and available 80% or more of all shifts each week. Part‑time up to 25 hours per week.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Apply common sense and carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions.
  • Certificates and Licenses:
    Valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit; valid Food Handlers Permit may be required.
  • Physical Demands:
    Stand, walk, bend; lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 or more occasionally; push or pull 50–100 pounds occasionally; use arms, hands, fingers to handle items; maintain balance and communication.
  • Age Requirement:
    Must be over 21 to work at Specs.
