The impact you will make:The Sickle Cell Specialist will bring entrepreneurial initiative to build durable markets for rare disease medicines in underserved therapeutic areas. You will earn trust, advance disease education, and prepare the ecosystem for long‑term impact, laying the foundation for Mitapivat and Agios’ pipeline of transformative treatments.
The Sickle Cell Specialist (SCS) reports to a Regional Business Director and is responsible for raising awareness of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and the need for disease education and treatment readiness, especially as approval for Mitapivat approaches. The role focuses on the territories of Memphis, Birmingham, and New Orleans.
Field‑Based Requirements:Consistent in‑person engagement across priority accounts within the territory is required.
What you will do:- Occupy territory business owner role, developing and executing a long‑term market building strategy.
- Lead multi‑touch disease education engagements to deepen understanding of SCD pathophysiology, disease burden, and unmet need.
- Create an integrated, data‑driven plan reflecting clear prioritization and disciplined execution.
- Collaborate with field teams, marketing, Medical Affairs, and Market Access for alignment on objectives and communication.
- Build credible, trust‑based relationships with key customers and expand knowledge of the sickle cell marketplace.
- Coordinate with regional Medical Affairs and Market Access to ensure seamless patient support.
- Advance patients toward treatment readiness, continuously assess performance metrics, and adapt strategies.
- Develop internal and external relationships to enable compliant business partnerships.
- Ensure appropriate and compliant utilization of corporate resources for customer engagements.
- Represent Agios positively and professionally at meetings and conferences, ensuring compliance with all regulations and guidelines.
- Achieve or exceed sales forecasts and targets within budget.
- Lead ad‑hoc initiatives that contribute to business goals.
- Priority HCPs view you as a trusted SCD partner, not just a product representative.
- Disease education conversations deepened, leading to earlier identification of appropriate patients.
- Accounts are prepared to act efficiently once therapy is approved.
- Cross‑functional partners rely on your insights for strategy and execution.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Scientific degree a plus. - Proven success in rare disease sales (minimum 5 years of experience).
- Experience in Sickle Cell/Hematology/Oncology sales preferred.
- History of building disease awareness and launching first‑in‑class therapies.
- Strong business acumen with account management, data analysis, and competitive selling.
- Ability to translate complex clinical and scientific concepts into compliant dialogue.
- Cross‑functional collaboration with marketing, medical affairs, market access, patient services, and sales operations.
