Lead Campus Security Officer

Southern College of Optometry (SCO), based in Memphis, Tennessee, was established in 1932 and is among just 21 optometry colleges in the United States. • Responsible for day-to-day supervision, motivation, coaching and training of Campus Security Officers and contract officers on assigned shift,specifically executing site-specific orientations including review of Post Orders, routine responsibilities, and how to respond to emergencies.
• Make post inspections while on duty on a continuing basis and spend the quality time required to acknowledge and ensure adequate security officer performance, including inspection of Security Officer’s appearance andreview of the actual duties performed by personnel.
• Assist Director of Safety and Security in implementing the emergency procedures established for the various  their absence, take responsibility to implement emergency procedures during fires, earthquakes, power failures, etc. Also, assist in the operation of Fire/Life/Safety systems in an emergency.
• Coordinate and report to Director of Safety and Security on the status and upkeep of systems and equipment monitored or audited by security.
• Identify any personnel problems occurring at posts, such as payroll issues, employee relations complaints or other concerns, and forward any such issues to the Director of Safety and Security , Administrative Coordinator, or other personnel as deemed necessary.
• May be responsible for writing a report from a situation or assisting with an investigation, as directed by the Campus Security Manager. May act as primary investigator of security issues, utilizing knowledge of CCTV (closed circuit television) and all other security systems.
• Respond to minor incidents that occur, ensuring appropriate action are taken, ensuring all reports are properly completed, and appropriate parties are notified in a timely manner.
• Review daily all logs and incident reports, and pass on to Director of Safety and Security any unusual occurrences, disciplinary issues, call-offs, or missing documentation. Follow up as directed by Campus Safety & Security Manager.

• Security and safety management, emergency response, and crisis management experience
• Exceptional leadership and team coordination skills
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities
• Proficiency in using security systems, surveillance technology, and incident reporting tools
• Knowledge of safety protocols, measures, and local/state safety regulations
• Ability to work varying hours and shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• 5 years previous law enforcement or security experience preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced education in law enforcement or security is a plus
