Position: Senior Security Officer (Memphis, TN) - 3rd Shift

Life Unlimited. At Smith+Naphew, we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. The Senior Security Officer provides leadership, direction, mentorship, and training to security officers in the assigned shifts.

This position is not offering any type of visa transfer or sponsorship now or in the future

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead work of security officers assigned to the shift.
  • Train officers on general and shift‑specific responsibilities.
  • Respond to reports of emergency, unusual, and/or unsafe situations.
  • Evaluate, determine, and implement appropriate actions to be taken and advise key personnel as appropriate.
  • Issue employee parking hangtags and maintain a computer log of the parking program.
  • Issue security proximity access cards/badges and maintain the computer control system.
  • Review, compile, report, and maintain security officer paperwork.
  • Maintain inventory of security equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with planning and execution of Smith+Naphew events.
  • Coordinate access to buildings, advising people and traffic to the accurate location.
  • Institute standard safety precautions.
  • Assist in identifying the best methodologies for securing Smith+Naphew’s property.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot access control systems and resolve physical security failures with external vendors and Smith+Naphew Building Maintenance Department.
  • Assist with coordinating shift coverage for unexpected absences.
Scope of Position
  • Supervision – Partial responsibility for supervising approximately fifteen security officers; assist in training and supervising duties performed by guard force.
  • Internal and External Relationships – Internal contacts range from hourly staff to upper management; external contacts include various vendors and professionals.
  • Organization Influence – Scope of responsibility is Smith+Naphew in Memphis.
Qualifications
  • Education – Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or related field, or two years related experience.
  • Certifications – Must be bonded and commissioned; complete training for registration with the State of Tennessee as an armed security officer/guard; be certified in CPR and first aid; maintain valid registration.
  • Experience – Minimum one (1) year of law enforcement, security, or related professional experience.
  • Languages / Skills – Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; typing skill preferred.
  • Knowledge – Corporate security investigative techniques; laws of arrest and seizure; rules of evidence and court procedures; legal rights of citizens.
  • Competences – No criminal convictions (misdemeanor or felony); valid driver’s license; willingness to undergo polygraph test, random drug screenings (minimum four times per year), psychological evaluation (written and by licensed psychologist).
  • Physical & Firearms Training – First ninety days: score 85% or better on a 50‑round weapons course; complete 80 hours of company‑sponsored firearms training with 85% passing score; 80‑hour, company‑sponsored physical fitness program with drills (push‑ups, sit‑ups, bench press, mile run) and quarterly testing.
  • Continuing Education – May be required to keep abreast of current security procedures.
Physical Demands
  • Perform physical tasks such as 30 push‑ups in 60seconds, 30 sit‑ups in 60seconds, bench press 75% body weight @ 10 repetitions in 1 minute, ½‑mile run in 5 minutes.
  • Stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, use hands, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, taste or smell for 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; lift >100lbs up to 1/3 of the time.
  • Maintain close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision as described.
  • Quarterly testing to ensure the minimum fitness standards are maintained.
Work Environment

Wet, humid or non‑weather conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; work in high or precarious places; exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold or heat; risk of electrical shock; work with explosives (1/3 to 2/3 of the time). Noise level is usually moderate.
