Security Officer-University at MSCCN Memphis, TN

Summary

Security Officer – Responsible for patrolling all facilities and responding to incidents to protect the safety of persons and property on the premises of Baptist Health Sciences University. Under the immediate supervision of the Lieutenant, responsible for a designated security watch of 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Incumbent may be required to work beyond the normal work day and shift may be periodically amended due to staffing needs.

• Monitors and authorizes entrance to the assigned area to deter crime or misconduct and to detect and initiate corrective action on security problems and safety hazards.
• Patrols on-foot and via company vehicle to further monitor university campus.
• Opens and closes all buildings by checking doors, occupancy, and activation/deactivation of alarms.
• Responds to all calls of alarm or disorder, assesses the situation and acts accordingly.
• Documents occurrences and related acts as incidents occur to maintain the security of BHSU.
• Performs escorts to staff and students as required within policy guidance.
• Enforces the BHSU security rules, policies, and procedures and detains suspects under Tennessee Law as necessary.
• Maintains required certifications and licensures.
• Serves as a resource for facilitating university communication by processing, receiving, and disseminating information to the appropriate department, individual, or student.
• Provides campus dispatch and communicates information to other departmental staff on duty.
• Controls traffic in the area of parking and other critical loading zones by enforcing university parking policies.
• Effectively communicates and interacts on a daily basis with individuals, creating and promoting crime prevention opportunities.
