Qualifications and Detail about the Position

Summary:

An Industrial Painter/Coater & Blaster is responsible to perform duties involving all aspects of the preparation and application of industrial coatings to a high standard of workmanship using a variety of tools and materials. Painter/Coaters & Blaster's work both indoors and outdoors, year-round in commercial and industrial settings. Industrial work will consist of but not limited to abrasive blasting, fireproofing, metalizing, spray painting, power-washing, and working with power tools.

Essential Functions

• Promote, demonstrate and instill Brock's Bsafe and Bbest culture in all aspects of the business
• Comply with all manufacturer's specifications
• Follow all Brock, Contractor's, and governmental safety requirements
• Perform work in accordance with Contractor Specifications
• Follow the applicable Brock, Contractor, and governmental safety requirements
• Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, or rollers
• Apply paint to simulate wood grain, marble, brick, or stonework
• Prepare, operate, inspect and maintain blast pots and spray pumps
• Cut stencils, and brushes and sprays lettering and decorations on surfaces
• Sands surfaces between coats and polishes final coat to specified finish
• Bakes finish on painted and enameled articles in baking oven
• Washes and treats surfaces with oil, turpentine, mildew remover, or other preparations
• Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish
• Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk putty, plaster, or other filler, using caulking gun or putty knife.
• Read work order or receives instructions from supervisor
• Climb scaffolding or sets up and climbs ladders to work above ground level
• Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surface during painting
• Burn off old paint, using blowtorch
• Remove fixtures, such as pictures and electric switch covers, from walls prior to painting
• Spray or brush hot plastics or pitch onto surfaces
• Smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, or sanding machine

Working Conditions:

ORIENTATION - Must be able to successfully pass Brock and/or Safety Council Site Specific Orientation requirements.

HEAVY WORK - Lifting up to 50 pounds of force from the floor to the waist and 35 pounds of force from the waist to above shoulder.

CLIMBING - Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and the like, to elevations in excess of 100 feet, to maintain three-point contact at all times.

LADDERS - Using vertical ladders Frequently up to 100 feet - Activity exists up to 60% of the work shift.

STAIRS & RAMPS - Using stairs or ramps:
Occasionally up to 100 feet - Activity exists up to 40% of the work shift.

BALANCING - Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, on unprotected elevated surfaces using fall protection equipment; or maintaining body equilibrium when performing scaffold construction at elevations using fall protection equipment. Frequently - Activity exists up to 60% of the work shift.

STOOPING - Bending body downward and forward by bending at the waist, requiring full use of the leg and back muscles on a repetitive basis. Frequently - Activity exists up to 60% of the work shift.

KNEELING - Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Occasionally - Activity exists up to 40% of the work shift.

CROUCHING - Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and waist. Frequently - Activity exists up to 60% of the work shift.

REACHING - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in order to receive materials from ground level weighing up to 50 pounds as it is being passed and 35 pounds from…
