Position Summary
The Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and controls maintenance, repairs, and installations across all manufacturing and facility systems. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, production readiness, and safe operation of all plant assets.
The technician diagnoses and resolves equipment failures, executes preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and supports capital projects including installation, upgrades, and redesign of production equipment and systems.
Work is performed under the general direction of Maintenance Leadership with the expectation of independent judgment in day-to-day activities. The role may provide training and leadership to less experienced technicians and may be required to work overtime or be on‑call for emergency repairs.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control system issues across all plant equipment.
Maintain and repair production equipment including motors, conveyors, mixers, packaging systems, and facility systems.
Troubleshoot and repair 24-volt control systems, AC/DC motors, VFDs, MCCs, relays, sensors, and instrumentation.
Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and engineering documentation.
Perform alignment, calibration, and system testing to ensure proper operation.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
Execute preventive (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Update and improve PM procedures and standard work documentation.
Perform lubrication, inspection, cleaning, and adjustment of mechanical systems.
Analyze equipment failures and participate in root cause analysis and breakdown elimination.
Install, rebuild, and modify machinery and equipment.
Support capital projects and collaborate with engineers on new equipment installations and line redesigns.
Install electrical systems including conduit, wiring, panels, and components.
Install and maintain PLCs, instrumentation, and control systems.
Fabricate parts using machine tools such as welders, lathes, drill presses, and grinders.
Electrical & Controls Work
Install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment.
Troubleshoot PLC systems and assist in programming or configuration updates.
Maintain and calibrate instrumentation including sensors, transmitters, and control devices.
Support continuous improvement of plant automation and control systems.
CMMS & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment history in the CMMS.
Track parts usage and support inventory management processes.
Prepare reports on maintenance activities and equipment status.
Safety & Compliance
Perform all work in accordance with company safety standards and procedures.
Identify and report unsafe conditions and practices.
Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials.
Maintain clean, organized work areas aligned with 5S standards.
Participate in Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives (5S, Centerline, CILT, AM, breakdown analysis, etc.).
Assist and train other technicians and operators in maintenance practices and troubleshooting.
Support team‑based problem‑solving and operational excellence initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
Technical certification or degree preferred.
5–10+ years of experience in manufacturing maintenance, with strong multi‑craft capabilities.
Licensed electrician (preferred or required based on business needs).
