Salary Range:$71,628.44 - $71,628.44 Works under the supervision of a foreman or other assigned supervisor. Analyzes, maintains, repairs, and rebuilds a variety of automotive, diesel and turf equipment (light and heavy), and related parts and units. Conducts advanced diagnostics on vehicles and /or equipment to determine nature and extent of damage or malfunction and performs specialized repairs. Removes, disassembles, and inspects units, such as engines, transmissions, etc.

Performs various types of welding processes and techniques such as acetylene, forge, and temper in repairing vehicles, turf equipment and machinery. Repairs, overhauls, and replaces parts, such as carburetors, fuel injectors, alternators, distributors, pumps, pistons, rods, bearings, etc. Repairs and rewires electrical systems, such as ignition systems, lights, etc. Adjusts brakes, aligns front end on various vehicles (light and heavy).

Replaces and repairs shock absorbers and hydraulic components as needed. Provides technical and safety instruction to personnel assigned to assist in the performance of assigned tasks.

Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

Typical Physical Demands

Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of staff members and management. Must be able to operate computers programmed with diagnostic software and various diagnostic equipment/scanners. May be required to operate power hammers, power saws, shears, and emery grinds. Requires the ability to operate equipment and mechanical tools such as hydraulic pneumatic tools, electric tools, hand held scanners, code readers, impact guns and other various hand tools.

Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and traverse uneven surfaces. Requires the ability to operate an automobile to and from various working stations and for inspection purposes. Requires the ability to perform manual work which will involve stooping, bending, reaching, crouching, climbing, balancing and lifting equipment and materials, which can weigh up to 50 lbs. or up to 100 lbs.

Typical Working Conditions

Work is performed outdoors and in an automotive repair shop environment. May be exposed to noise, dust, grease, and fumes. May be exposed to various weather conditions. Some field work involved as needed.

Qualifications

Must have four (4) years’ experience as a truck mechanic. Must possess or obtain within twenty-four (24) months of employment and maintain a valid Class “B” Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License as a condition of continued employment and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and Drug Testing Rules. Must possess and maintain the T-8 Preventive Maintenance Inspection (PMI) certification as a condition of continued employment.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Certifications in Medium-Heavy Truck – T-2 Diesel Engines; T-3 Drivetrain; T-4 Brakes; T-5 Suspension & Steering: T-6 Electrical/Electronic System; T-7 Heating, Ventilation, & A/C is preferred.
