Miscellaneous Temp - Volunteer Coordinator; Juvenile Court

Position Summary

This position provides effective and efficient management, recruitment and training of volunteers for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). The position also provides oversight to the liaisons between the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County and other State and local agencies acting as the temporary legal guardians of minor children in out-of-home foster care placement.

Pay Grade: 41H
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

• Two (2) years' experience in Social Services, Family Assistance, Counseling or related field; AND
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Science or Behavioral Science, or related field; OR equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
• PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

• Recruits and trains qualified volunteers.
• Coordinates with volunteers on implementation of new policies, statutes, procedures and investigative processes.
• Updates case activities in the CASA Manger database.
• Assists and monitors volunteer compliance of goals set on the Investigation Target dates checklist.
• Schedules and coordinates initial consultations with volunteers for the assignment of new cases.
• Develops and maintains resources guide for volunteers including community social service agencies relevant to the client's needs.
• Attends and assists with functions that promote community awareness of CASA.
• Reviews and edits all court reports prior to hearings; and attend court proceedings.
• Monitors and follow-up on youth after transitioning out of the foster care system for a minimum of three months.
• Maintains volunteer database, process and screen volunteer applications.
• Performs related responsibilities as assigned.

• Knowledge of CASA program.
• Must be highly organized, detail oriented, able to multi-task, and highly motivated.
• Ability to manage and supervise staff members and volunteers and oversee his/her work product consisting of high-volume caseloads in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
• Ability to recruit, train and manage volunteers.
• Must have excellent communication (oral and written) skills.
• Ability to establish working relationships with co-workers, general public, volunteers, program directors, elected officials, public and private agencies.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Ability to design and prepare statistical reports and organize them into meaningful documents.

All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment. The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department.

The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff's Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
