Senior​/Principal Software Engineer, Rust Genomics Infrastructure

The Senior Staff Software Engineer and Principal Software Engineer positions e's Children's Research Hospital focus on leading Rust-based development of genomics analysis tools, with strategic direction, design, implementation, and operational health. • Independently manage software systems, providing strategic direction, technical design, implementation, and operational health.
• Serve as a technology advocate and thought leader, inspiring change and guiding application strategy.
• Architect, design, and develop best‑in‑class solutions to complex problems in the scientific domain.
• Use scientific domain knowledge for data analysis, identify problems, and generate strategic leads.
• Stay educated on existing and state‑of‑the‑art technologies and evaluate technology fits for delivery.
• Engage and influence senior leadership and decision‑makers.
• Participate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and presentations.
• Drive continuous learning processes, mentor and guide teams to ensure quality and productivity.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet department and institution goals.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information science, business, or related field (Master's preferred).
• 8+ years of experience in computer science, data science, information science, business, or related field (6+ years required with a Master's degree).
• Deep understanding of the Rust programming language and core concepts.
• Proficiency in algorithm development with a focus on optimization via profiling.
• Track record of developing well‑documented and tested software.
• Experience with programming languages, databases, and software development life cycles.
• Substantial experience in the technical and/or scientific domain.
• Proven performance in earlier or comparable roles.
• Strong synchronous and asynchronous communication skills for project direction and community engagement.

Estimated range: $125,840 – $238,160 per year for the role of Senior Staff / Principal Software Engineer, Rust Genomics Infrastructure.
