Job OverviewThe Switcher I is responsible for the transport of full and empty trailers between the docks and the designated drop parking locations in the "Trailer Yard" to support inbound unloading and outbound loading warehouse operations in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner. The position performs inspections of trailers for any discovered issues or mechanical maintenance needs before moving, tags out trailers requiring attention, and communicates any discovered issues to warehouse management or fleet maintenance.
The role may also require occasional forklift or other PIT equipment operation within the warehouse.
- Transport full and empty trailers between the docks and designated drop parking spaces
- Inspect trailers before transporting to identify mechanical maintenance needs and potential safety hazards
- Maintain organization of the trailer yard to ensure efficient and safe transport of trailers
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of work area and warehouse
- Perform other tasks including pallet building as determined and requested by management
- May perform duties other than switching as assigned
- Require continuously climbing steps to get in and out of Switcher Tractor
- Ability to read, write, and use a radio
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced atmosphere while walking and repetitively lifting 30 lbs
- Ability to lift, up to 75 lbs
- Ability to collaborate within a team environment
- Ability to coordinate and organize efficient and dependable warehouse processes
- Ability to adapt to needs of role in different work areas throughout the workday and meet minimum expectations of those different work areas
- Ability to read and interpret instructions from a computer screen
- Attention to detail and ability to differentiate our packages
- Ability to work while exposed to the elements and in a noisy and non‑climate controlled (Hot in summer, cold in winter) environment
- Intentional self‑starter who takes initiative and proactively seeks value‑add opportunities
- Flexibility in scheduling required as work hours are subject to change based on business demands
- High school diploma or GED
- Knowledge acquired through 1 to up to 3 years of work experience
- Valid driver's license
PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) Certification including Pallet Jack, Forklift, Double Forklift, and Switch Tractor.
Work EnvironmentNoisy and non‑temperature‑controlled environment (Hot in summer, cold in winter)
