The Summer Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Menasha Parks and Recreation programs and events by assisting the Camp Coordinator and Recreation/Senior Services Manager to provide a summer full of opportunities and memories. The role is responsible for preparing lesson plans, gathering materials and supplies, implementing the lesson plans in a professional and positive manner, while providing direction and support of the program instructors.
This includes development of curriculum in a timely manner, ensuring programs are set up and ready to begin, and providing ideas around continuous improvements. The Summer Assistant will also perform routine customer service and instructor duties.
37.5-40 hours per week, May through August, with the main schedule set by the Recreation/Senior Services Manager.
General Department Support (20%)- Respond to questions from program participants and provide timely Parks and Recreation Department announcements.
- Comfortable with learning Rec Desk, Google Drive, Canva, and other computer and office technology.
- Promote a positive, safe, energetic, and team environment.
- Assists with Parks and Recreation special events as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Greet, direct, and assist program participants and staff throughout lesson plan in accordance with rules, regulations, training, policies, and procedures. Model best practices and instruction methods that are to be replicated amongst staff.
- Aid in preparing the curriculum and provide adaptations when necessary.
- Opens, secure, and cleans program areas before and after program use; prepares program areas for scheduled recreational activities and events. Direct staff as needed in these tasks.
- Inspects program areas and equipment and recommend maintenance and repair as needed.
- Aid in maintaining records of participation and any necessary program participation paperwork.
- Aid in providing occasional feedback and training to program instructors.
- Aid in the writing the pre and post program communications.
- Support the Camp Coordinator as needed.
- Serve as the Coordinator when absences require.
- Take photos and videos of programs and events for marketing purposes.
- Plan, prepare for, and implement the Splash Days with staff support.
Percentages reflect the estimated allocation of time spend in each responsibility area.

- Ability to work either indoors or outdoors during recreation programs
- Knowledge and ability to perform all essential functions
- Previous experience working with children and public
- Demonstrates a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail, and commitment by completing assignments in a timely and effective manner.
- Applies high ethical standards, such as honesty, responsibility, and trustworthiness, at all times
- Required to have physical presence and regular and reliable attendance.
- High school graduate
- Two or more years of experience working with children
- First Aid/CPR Certification (can be obtained after hire)
