What You Will Do
- Foster a safe work environment and lead by example, adhering to and enforcing all safety and regulatory procedures. Promptly act on unsafe situations.
- Immediately report potential food safety or product quality issues to the management staff or shift supervisor.
- Spend at least 70% of the time in the production environment supporting a variety of EHS activities, including:
- Managing employees' safety concerns
- Workplace inspections
- Risk assessments – new and updates
- Safety walks with different teams and Plant Leadership
- Contractor inspections
- Programmed safety focused audits
- Management of change (machines, work areas, etc.)
- Updating safety communications and contractor safety boards
- Perform weekly inspections of hazardous waste storage areas
- Perform stormwater inspections
- Sign waste manifests
- Perform environmental/DOT training
- Prepare and submit required reports monthly, quarterly, semiannually and annually.
- Chemical approval review for safety and environmental impacts
- Gather and record environmental data (monthly air emissions, oxidizer readings, etc.)
- Periodic review of government websites for regulation changes
- Use the balance of time for administrative tasks such as:
- Lead the Safety Team
- Ensure local authorities, regulations, rules, and codes are observed, including interfacing with authorities when required and ensuring accurate record‑keeping and reporting
- Participate in corporate safety audits and follow up
- Ensure accident/injury investigations are completed and preventive action steps are implemented
- Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure all required safety training is developed, scheduled, conducted and managed on time
- Support the development of plant and individual safety goals and gather safety metric data
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental, or other related field preferred.
- 1-2 years of related experience preferred.
