Senior CFD Simulation Engineer

Responsibilities

• Simulate airflow and heat transfer within enclosures that house power electronics such as power distribution enclosures, switchboards, UPS, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
• Model internal enclosure components—including busbars, heat sinks, fans, and electronic components—treated as heat sources at steady‑state and transient operating loads.
• Design and optimize enclosure HVAC systems for efficient cooling, considering sizing, capacity, placement, and external environmental conditions.
• Model heat transfer and temperature distribution within battery packs, incorporating environmental conditions, charging/discharging cycles, and thermal management requirements.
• Collaborate with CAD design engineers to import existing geometries and guide design decisions for thermal performance.
• Gather relevant information and establish boundary conditions with engineering teams.
• Propose optimized designs for future product definitions and thermal management system requirements.
• Supervise and assist with product testing regimes to collect data for simulation verification and refinement.
• Define testing requirements for verification and validation of prototype models.
• Establish partnerships with HVAC suppliers, capture technology roadmaps, and manage collaboration efforts.
• Summarize and communicate CFD results and design recommendations to key stakeholders.
• Define requirements for HVAC and thermal management performance to support manufacturing and site implementation.

• Education
  :
  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience
  : 5+ years of CFD analysis experience.
• Proven use of CFD tools such as Ansys Fluent/CFX, Thermal Desktop, COMSOL, Star‑CCM+, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with CAD design software (AutoCAD, Solid Works, or similar).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to interpret simulation results and provide actionable design recommendations.
• Effective communication skills to present technical findings and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (preferred).
• Experience in the energy sector, particularly microgrid, DER products, power distribution systems, and enclosures.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and industry standards related to microgrid, power generation, and energy storage.
• Experience using CFD for thermal management system design and optimization of cooling components.
• Leadership experience in developing and optimizing thermal management systems for batteries and enclosures.

• Travel: 5–10% of time.
• Work Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday 7AM–5PM, with flexibility to accommodate business needs.
• Work Location:
  
  Onsite in Menasha, WI.
