Job Overview
The Automation Engineer III is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of automation and process control systems, including new installations, modifications, and customer support. Activities are heavily focused on-site at customer facilities. The position requires proficiency in PC and Microsoft Office Suite and is part of a company recognized as one of the healthiest workplaces.
Key Responsibilities- Methodically approach process startup.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills.
- Work independently; assess and troubleshoot service needs under stressful conditions.
- Work through more complicated systems and intermittent issues.
- Troubleshoot and solve issues that less senior Automation Engineers have struggled with.
- Work with team and provide direction to less senior Automation Engineers.
- Lead and provide input to team brainstorming activities to contribute to solutions or options.
- Think outside the box and share ideas.
- Open to ideas, establish best option and path forward to team and customer.
- Work advanced level project assignments independently or with team, including working with Systems Architects, Project Engineers, customers, and delegating work.
- Perform quality checks on other Automation Engineers' work for accuracy, functionality, and completeness.
- Provide programming and commissioning support, own startup and project scope.
- Provide mentoring to less experienced Automation Engineers or conflict resolution assistance in the field.
- Provide quality control feedback to other Automation Engineers independently of project assignment.
- Support Code Streamlining effort and building code library and support "buy-in" from all Programmers in Automation to use and build on Code Standards.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
- Associate Degree in Automated Manufacturing, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years advanced PLC/HMI programming and system startup experience.
- Valid state driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
- Travel 25-50% required.
- Work Schedule:
6 AM to 6 PM, Monday-Friday, with possible nights, weekends, and holidays; participation in an after-hours on-call rotation.
