The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing and leading other team members in specifying mechanical and electro‑mechanical parts and assemblies used within products for renewable energy, microgrid, EV charging, crypto mining, and data center markets. This position will support the Design Engineering team in the design and qualification of mechanical components, sub‑systems, multi‑level assemblies, and system architecture of various products used within the energy industry.
This position will direct other team members within the Design Engineering team in design activities and align these activities to project timelines. The team members will be designers and engineers, and the lead will provide coaching and mentoring through regular interactions to set scope and direction for project tasks and provide growth opportunities.
The ability to understand high‑level requirements and create detail‑level requirements and designs will be key to meeting project objectives. This position will lead the development of engineering scope and direction for projects within the business.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience
- Working knowledge of 2D/3D CAD design software
- Experience with structural enclosures, mechanical assemblies, HVAC systems, mechanical piping, firefighting systems, and/or power generation
- Problem‑solving skills, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action experience
- Experience in Bill of Materials creation and Change Notice processes
- 10 years of product design experience
- Design experience in electrical components or equipment within the energy industry
- Design experience with programming languages and controls software
- Manufacturing and field support experience
- Experience leading other team members
10–25% travel required.
Work ScheduleThis position works between 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday–Friday, with a sufficient schedule to meet the expectations of the role.
Work LocationOnsite at our Menasha, WI office. The office provides flexibility to support a healthy work‑life balance.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of the engineering team.
- Provide coaching and development opportunities for the team through regular interactions.
- Develop the design scope and timeline for the discipline within engineering projects.
- Ensure project requirements and timelines are met.
- Research, create, and update engineering design standards to promote best practices.
- Support the design of mechanical components and sub‑systems for power/low‑voltage products, including component selection, general layouts, assembly design, and installation.
- Perform complex design calculations to ensure compliance with project requirements or review others’ work for correctness.
- Study and understand related government and industry standards that govern the products being developed.
- Produce relevant documentation needed to meet project goals, including mechanical layouts, component prints, assemblies, and compliance documents.
- Interact with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Industrial Engineering staff on a regular basis.
- Participate and present technical information during design meetings or reviews.
- Support the creation of 2D prints and 3D models at a system level.
- Help develop product Bill of Materials structures for modularity and configurability.
- Review Bills of Materials and Change Notices to release components and assemblies.
- Support costing activities to ensure pricing targets are achieved at the project level.
- Support the creation of technical manuals for operation and maintenance.
- Provide technical assistance for prototype and pilot builds and production support as needed.
- Work with suppliers to integrate components into higher‑level system designs.
- Support service, aftermarket, and installation teams as needed.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
