Maintenance Technician – Industrial Manufacturing Job Description

Compensation:

  • Total compensation starting at $90k - $113k per year
  • Rotating 2/2/3 Swing Shift Schedule
  • Pay Perks: 1.5x on Saturdays, 2x on Sundays, plus 1.5x pay for any shift worked outside of scheduled shift
  • 3 weeks of vacation (prorated first year)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, repair, perform preventive maintenance, modify, and install electrical drives and controls, power distribution systems, pneumatic instrumentation, and mechanical systems in a safe manner.
  • Work on technical/operational projects that involve a broad range of equipment, materials, and procedural issues in a manufacturing environment.

General

Job Duties:

  • Diagnose electrical, instrumentation, and control problems; repair or replace electrical components; replace motors and drives; PLC programming (AB PLC 5, 500, 5000, and Micro Logix).
  • Calibrate PID loops, build electrical and pneumatic control panels, replace and install lighting fixtures, complete preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, and report mechanical problems.
  • Train Apprentice Electrical & Instrumentation technicians as needed.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Ensure safe work practices and procedures are followed; identify unsafe conditions and take corrective action.
  • Complete required safety training on time.
  • Ensure efficient operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; follow electrical diagrams, sketches, manuals, and engineering specifications.
  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools; examine parts.
  • Determine dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts and using measuring instruments; adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments with hand tools, levels, etc.
  • Complete work orders and log detailed information into the maintenance management system.
  • Control downtime by informing production workers of routine equipment care and maintenance techniques.
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipts.
  • Provide mechanical/electrical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepare maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and needs.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Participate in performance system and safety audits.
  • Comply with DHS Chemical Facility Anti‑Terrorism Standards (CFATS) requirements as described.
  • Complete related tasks as requested by manager.

Essential

Skills and Experience:

  • Two‑year technical degree in Electrical or Electromechanical sciences and 1‑3 years of industrial experience (preferred); high school diploma and 5 years of industrial experience acceptable.
  • Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, and drive systems; troubleshooting and repairing AC/DC drives, PLCs, and industrial controls.
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley controls preferred.
  • Practical problem‑solving abilities; prioritizes work, communicates clearly, completes tasks in a timely manner, and meets production standards.
  • Project scheduling and small‑team leadership abilities; knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds with assistance; maintain upright position for majority of a 12‑hour shift; perform tasks requiring climbing, reaching, and hoisting.
