CNC Machine Operator Job Description

The CNC Machine Operator sets up and operates CNC lathes, mills, and related manufacturing equipment to support safe, efficient production. This role requires hands‑on experience with precision measurement tools, in‑process quality control inspection, and adherence to established manufacturing standards to ensure all products meet required specifications.

Responsibilities
  • Operate CNC lathes, mills, and other manufacturing equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Set up machines and verify proper tooling, materials, and programs before starting production runs.
  • Monitor machine operations, make necessary adjustments, and ensure consistent part quality throughout the production process.
  • Conduct in-process quality control inspections on parts produced to verify they meet blueprint specifications and tolerances.
  • Use calipers and other basic inspection tools to perform precise measurements and document results as required.
  • Partner closely with the quality department to inspect product and resolve any quality issues identified during production.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and production documentation to understand part requirements and machining instructions.
  • Move materials, parts, and finished products using hoists, forklifts, and other material handling equipment in a safe manner.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following housekeeping and safety standards in an industrial environment.
  • Follow all manufacturing standards, work instructions, and company policies to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks while maintaining attention to detail and meeting production schedules.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of machine operating experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands‑on experience operating CNC machines, including lathes and mills.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds or more as part of daily production and material handling activities.
  • Basic experience using quality inspection tools such as calipers and other measurement devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow detailed machining instructions.
  • Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and interpreting tolerances.
  • Basic computer skills for operating equipment interfaces and recording inspection data.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure parts meet specifications and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Experience partnering with a quality department to inspect and verify product conformity.
  • Familiarity with general manufacturing standards and production workflows.
  • Comfort working with industrial equipment and material handling tools such as hoists and forklifts.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members regarding production status and quality concerns.

Industrial equipment operates throughout the facility, and employees work around CNC machines, material handling equipment, and other production tools in a safety‑conscious environment.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
