Journeyman Union Scale. $48.96per hour (based on experience and/or size and type of equipment) (This pay range is a good-faith estimate of compensation for this role.)

Job Summary: The Boom Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of boom trucks used to lift, transport, and place materials, tools, and equipment on asphalt paving and underground utility job sites. This role supports paving, grading, and utility crews while maintaining full compliance with company safety policies, DOT regulations, and jobsite requirements.

Job Duties & Requirements:

- Safely operate boom trucks (hydraulic or knuckle bom ‑ boom, as applicable) to move, load, unload, and place materials such as pipe, structures, forms, tools, and equipment.
- Perform daily pre ‑ trip and post ‑ trip inspections of the truck, boom/crane, rigging, and safety equipment.
- Set up boom truck at job sites, including proper use of outriggers, cribbing, and load stabilization.
- Follow load charts, job ‑ specific lift plans, and weight restrictions at all times.
- Communicate clearly with foremen and ground personnel using hand signals, radios, or other approved methods.
- Assist with loading, securing, and transporting materials between job sites and yards.
- Support paving and utility crews with general labor tasks when not operating the boom truck, as needed.
- Maintain accurate inspection logs, certifications, and equipment condition reports.
- Comply with all safety policies, OSHA regulations, DOT requirements, and site ‑ specific rules.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Preferred
Education and Experience:
- Valid CDL (Class A or
B) with acceptable driving record. - Cranecertification is required.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating boom trucks or similar equipment in construction.
- Knowledgeable in trench safety requirements.
- Experience in underground utilities or heavy civil construction.
- Knowledge of safe rigging practices, load calculations, and crane operation principles.
- Familiarity with traffic control zones and working near live traffic.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for identifying maintenance issues.
- Ability to work extended hours during peak construction season.
- Dependable attendance and strong safety awareness.
- Willingness to work extended hours, early mornings, and weekends as needed.
- High school education or GED equivalent.
- Strong team player.
- Reliable and on‑time.
