Position: Basic Needs Coordinator

Basic Needs Coordinator

We have an exciting opportunity for a Basic Needs Coordinator position located at our campus in Menifee, CA. Under supervision and direction of the Director of CALWORKs, the Basic Needs Coordinator, will focus on addressing the basic needs of students and provide a holistic, comprehensive basic needs services and resources to students to support their successful matriculation through the community college system and beyond.

Establish and maintain the Basic Needs Center(s) to offer services and resources to students in need. Audit resources that are available on-campus and in the community and maintain an easy to access college webpage.

Conditions of employment include:
This position serves District-Wide; applicants may be assigned to any district facility. Work hours and worksite locations are subject to change depending on department needs. A six-month probationary period must be successfully completed before the selected candidate is considered a permanent employee of the district.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contact local businesses, institutions, and city and county agencies to determine basic needs services and resources for students
  • Coordinating with the campus financial aid office to ensure students are receiving the maximum aid available
  • Identifying, supporting and linking students to on – and – off campus housing, food, mental health and other basic needs and resources
  • Developing on – and – off campus partnerships, including coordination with the local homelessness response system, to ensure that students have access to community-based services
  • Ensuring that students receive support in accessing Cal Fresh and other public benefits for which they are likely eligible
  • Create brochures, flyers, newsletters, and advertisements for the Basic Needs Center services and resources
  • Facilitate transition services such as work-based learning opportunities, provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills, and promote the use of technology for career planning and research
  • Collaborate with the Career/Transfer Center in offering presentations, workshops, and interview panels on various workability skills such as launching job search, application preparation, resume writing, interview techniques, job retention, job market trends, and internships
  • Articulate the needs of students to appropriate college personnel
  • Assist in preparing required narrative and expenditure reports within specific timelines
  • Maintain a friendly, supportive, atmosphere for students, staff, faculty, and the public
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The incumbent should possess knowledge of:

  • Cal Fresh program eligibility requirements and application process
  • Community based programs that offer basic needs assistance i.e., food, shelter, clothing, utility assistance
  • Educational opportunities available at the community college level, labor and market conditions, socio-economic issues, and their impact on current students Grant and categorical program filing needs
  • Program and operating procedures, updates, guidelines, rules, policies, and regulations
  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws
  • Record keeping

  • Program resources and client base

  • Accounting principles

The incumbent should possess skills in:

  • Accurate data entry

  • Handling multiple assignments simultaneously and set priorities based on customer needs

The incumbent should possess the ability to:

  • Provide and coordinate a variety of services and activities to assist students and their families Learn computer programs, and program parameters quickly
