Job Description & How to Apply Below
Together, we can help people build stronger communities — we're just getting started.
Meta is seeking a Data Center Electrical Engineer experienced in the design and operation of critical facilities to become part of our Electrical Design Engineering team. This position is specifically for a subject matter expert (SME) who will own the power system engineering and stability of next-generation, high-power density compute platforms within a large-scale data center environment. The role requires in-depth technical expertise in sophisticated electrical modeling, advanced system-level troubleshooting, and the ability to set a long-term technical strategy.
Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software infrastructure operates reliably and efficiently. Building and operating data centers to high standards from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity, availability, and capital conservatism. The Meta Data Center Engineering team drives innovation in the data center industry and improves reliability, safety, and efficiency through innovative solutions, enabling infrastructure teams to achieve their goals.
Electrical Engineer, Data Center Electrical Design Engineering Responsibilities:
Hold comprehensive technical ownership for the power system engineering of next-generation, high-power compute platforms across the full product lifecycle
Drive extensive system investigations into power and electrical stability across multiple generations of high-power rack systems in a data center setting
Lead the production of critical safety and design deliverables, including protection and safety design and analysis for high-voltage Direct Current (HVDC) distribution systems
Utilize electrical modeling and simulation tools to analyze rack and row level power distribution components such as busways, tap-off boxes, power distribution units, capacitors, and batteries
Perform complex system-level modeling, including harmonic and impedance analysis across large-scale data center sites, to proactively mitigate design and deployment risks
Lead advanced electrical troubleshooting efforts, such as root cause analysis for switching transients, ground fault issues, and component failures across live data center infrastructure
Participate in studies regarding the impact of next-generation AI workload power characteristics on power quality and grid stability
Provide subject matter expertise and technical guidance to cross-functional teams on HVDC distribution technology, hardware design optimization, and AC input protection systems
Ability to travel to vendor/design partner locations and data center sites for verification/validation testing of electrical systems technologies and products
Minimum Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in electrical or power system engineering, including design, modeling, or validation testing for critical infrastructure
Experience with in hyperscale data centers, high-power hardware development, or similar critical infrastructure environments
Expertise in advanced modeling (e.g., electromagnetic, AI and non-AI loads, etc.) techniques for complex data center hardware designs (e.g., high-power racks, high-current conductors, busbar systems, etc.). Relevant experience and expertise in electrical power simulation software - e.g., ETAP, EMTP, PSSE, PSCAD, Easy Power, Powerworld, Matlab Simulink etc Track record of troubleshooting and root cause isolation in complex electrical systems
Experience leading electrical component/equipment deployment, testing, and failure analysis across multiple complex hardware programs
Solid troubleshooting and analytical skills
Experience presenting technical findings and recommendations to cross-functional engineering and leadership audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
MS/Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related field
Expertise in HVDC electrical design, system modeling, and safety/transient studies for high-power IT racks
Working knowledge of FERC/NERC interconnection requirements for large load interconnections
Experience in designing data centers served with…
