Job Description & How to Apply Below
Together, we can help people build stronger communities — we're just getting started.
Meta is seeking a Data Center Electrical Engineer experienced in the design and operations of critical facilities to become part of our design engineering team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates with efficient ease. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity, availability, and capital conservatism.
The Meta Data Center Engineering team focuses on improving reliability, safety, and efficiency for the data center industry and improve reliability, safety, and efficiency through innovative solutions, enabling infrastructure teams to excel in achieving their goals.
---## Data Center Electrical Engineer Responsibilities
* Develop concepts for new data center infrastructure solutions focused on electrical power system technologies to reduce cost, improve reliability, efficiency, and speed to market
* Lead all phases of design and development life cycle of electrical systems comprising concept design, prototyping and deployments
* Develop collaborations with data center technology vendors, and consultants to remain current on data center electrical systems industry trends while influencing relevant technology development
* Collaborate with external vendors to select, procure, and manage critical infrastructure equipment (e.g., Substation power transformers, Medium voltage GIS + AIS switch gear, low voltage transformers, solid state transformers, DC to DC converters, High ampacity busway etc.)
* Manage the selection, procurement, and ongoing oversight of essential infrastructure equipment, which includes Substation power transformers, Medium voltage GIS + AIS switch gear, low voltage transformers, solid state transformers, DC to DC converters, etc., in partnership with external vendors
* Lead the evaluation and adoption of new power technologies (e.g., fuel cells, advanced battery storage, microgrid controllers, onsite generation, solid state transformers) and develop specifications and basis of design (BoD) with vendors to enable capital investments
* Drive required cross-functional collaboration with other teams including Hardware Engineering, Supply Chain, construction, commissioning, and data center operations
* Ability to travel to vendor/design partner locations and data center sites for verification/validation testing of electrical systems technologies and products##
Minimum Qualifications
* Minimum seven (7) years of hands-on design and development experience in mission critical electrical power components and systems including concept formulation, detailed design, modeling/simulation, prototyping, verification/validation testing and deployment for sustained operations
* Experience in electrical power simulation software - e.g. ETAP, EMTP, PSSE, PSCAD, Easypower, Powerworld, Matlab Simulink etc
* Experience with electric power industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NEC, NETA, ANSI, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, UL, UFC and UBC
* Cross-disciplinary knowledge of data center electrical systems design and operation: HV-MV-LV power distribution, backup power, energy storage, and onsite generation
* Experience in designing and implementing protection & control systems
* Effective presentation and communication skills
* Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
* Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills##
Preferred Qualifications
* Working knowledge of cost estimating methodologies to establish business cases for electrical design products - e.g. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), ROI, etc
* Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
* Active participation in IEEE working group meetings, contributing to specific areas such as: system planning, large load integration, protection and controls, and modeling
* Experience in electrical power systems reliability modeling, statistical analyses, and data science techniques
* Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
* Experience in designing datacenters served with behind the meter (BTM) islanded onsite generation with integrated inverter based technologies such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), supercapacitors and other technologies
