Job OverviewMainspring is seeking a Mid‑Level Mechanical Engineer focused on designing hardware that requires thermal and fluids analysis. You will design hardware for air and liquid handling systems, develop new concepts and manage existing concepts through development, deployment, and manufacturing.
Responsibilities- Participate in brainstorming activities to develop novel ways to improve all aspects of the Linear Generator.
- Develop and optimize key thermal subsystems of the Linear Generator to drive down cost, improve performance, and deliver high reliability.
- Contribute to projects within the thermal subsystems and other subsystems.
- Work with reliability and test teams to validate systems and components with fast cycles of learning for deployment into the next generation of Linear Generators.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing engineering, NPI, and external suppliers to rapidly deploy new designs into production.
- BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering field with 3 years of relevant industry experience, or MS with 2 years of relevant industry experience.
- Direct experience designing air or liquid handling systems with demonstrated fundamentals in thermo‑fluid system design.
- Fluent in Solid Works or comparable CAD package; experience with PLM or similar CAD version control system preferred.
- Experience with finite element analysis (structural, thermal, or fluids).
- Familiarity with thermal systems design simulation tools.
- Experience developing test plans and analyzing data for benchtop to product‑scale tests to validate new design concepts.
- Experience working with suppliers to develop and qualify new components.
- Experience with manufacturing processes such as sheet metal forming, machining, and plastics molding and forming.
- Demonstrated attention to detail with the ability to generate and review design documentation, bill of materials, work instructions, and test plans and reports.
- Experience utilizing GD&T is ideal.
- Self‑starter with a proven ability to deliver functional product designs in a rapid development environment.
- Experience with a full design lifecycle from concept through manufacturing support preferred.
- Interest in developing creative and cost‑effective solutions to enable the deployment of zero‑carbon energy technology at large scale.
Onsite at our Menlo Park HQ. Salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions and employee experience. In addition to base salary, Mainspring offers pre‑IPO stock options and benefits.
